Why choose our school?

At Cannon Hill State School children and teachers are going beyond what they thought was possible.

Parents and teachers engage in research to inform the quality of school programs.

Research is a key feature of the learning that students enjoy as their curiosity is provoked and their theories explored and tested. Long-term investigations enable depth of learning. The inspiration from Reggio Emilia grows each year as staff and parents become more expert in the application of the ideas generated in that Italian community while connecting strongly to the Australian Curriculum and the context of Queensland Education and our local community. Visual and performing arts are key to student thinking and expression of their learning.

Programs are organised so that students set goals in their literacy and numeracy learning and are able to describe what they are learning and how they are going.  Reading, writing, spelling, and numeracy are important goals for student progress through the years of primary school and their progress is benchmarked against the Australian Curriculum.

Situated in the near-city suburb of Cannon Hill, the school celebrated it’s centenary in 2015. At the time it was built, it was considered the most advanced architectural design of it’s time. That design still provides a beautiful and functional learning environment which has been modified to provide 21st Century learning spaces to accommodate contemporary approaches to teaching and learning. Years 5 and 6 students engage with their individual laptops for learning both at school and at home.

While the school enrols primarily from it’s catchment area including neighbourhoods from Cannon Hill, Seven Hills and Morningside, there are still possible vacancies for students from other parts of Brisbane.
