The School Council plays a key role bringing the community and school closer together in a spirit of cooperation to solve difficult education problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators, and bring parents into the decision-making process.
The objectives are to:
- Strengthen the partnership by promoting meaningful parent and community participation and actively seek the views of the school community.
- Maintain a high ethical standard and regularly review and evaluate our own performance and effectiveness.
- Increase the profile of the school within the broader community.
- Strengthen the inclusiveness and representation of all students within the school.
The council can positively influence the quality of education provided to students by focussing on improving student learning outcomes and educational opportunities from a governance perspective. The School Council is actively involved in the allocation of funding, the development of policies, the School Strategic Plan, and the Annual Implementation Plan.
The effectiveness of a school council relies both on the skills and expertise of its individual members and on council working as a team. The council meets once per term.
The council consists of the principal, a teaching staff representative, a non-teaching staff representative, the P&C president, and two parent representatives.
The parent representative roles are alternating two-year appointments, with the school council chair role performed by the longer-serving parent representative.
Nominations for parent representative positions are usually sought early in each school year, via our usual communication channels.
If there is a particular subject that you would like to see addressed by the School Council, or to express interest in a future representative role, you are welcome to contact the principal or school council chair via the
school office.
You can also raise potential matters for discussion via the P&C, either by attending a meeting (see calendar for meeting dates) or
emailing the P&C executive.
